PE Days: Tuesday PM & Wednesday AM
Book Bag Days: Tuesday & Friday
We are now asking children to pick and change their own books. Please comment and sign book records to show they are reading for 15 minutes each day.
Please ensure your child has breakfast before coming to school as it can affect their focus and concentration. If you want further information for breakfast club, please speak to a member of the office staff.
Children are allowed to bring in water bottles with water. Fruit juices and squash are not allowed. Water bottles also need to be made from plastic and not glass.
In Year 2 we ensure the children have good coverage of the curriculum.
Meet the Teacher
Here is what we discussed with parents that attended the Meet the Teacher session on Tuesday 10th October.
So far we have explored on how to present our work and building sentences.
From next week (starting 18th September), we will be looking at Traditional Tales.
Year 2 will be focusing on our understanding of numbers. We will be looking at counting forwards and backwards up to 500, sequencing numbers and spotting patterns. We will also be looking closely at place value and understanding the meaning of each digit in numbers and what they represent!
This term we will be learning as Intrepid Explorers. We will be looking closely at the UK and learning about what makes the UK special. After, we will be exploring other continents and countries and comparing them to where we live.
Year 2 are studying Living Things and Their Habitats this half term. We will be looking closely at animals and plants in their habitats and how they depend on each other.
We are looking through the Jigsaw unit, Being in My World. We will be exploring our worries, strengths and weaknesses and setting up a class ethos for the year.
Year 2 are revising all the common exception words from Year 1. We also need to able to read all our phonics sounds we have learned so far.
We will be bringing home spellings each week from 18th September. Please make time to practise with us at home!
Use these documents to help you with what we need to know.
We will be following the Nelson programme for Handwriting. Please check we are forming our letters correctly to help us write better!
End of Year Expectations
These are child-friendly fundamentals that show the skills children are required to have in Year 2 for Reading, Writing and Maths. Please use these to guide your support for your child at home.
Interim Teacher Assessment Frameworks
These statutory interim frameworks are used only to make a teacher assessment judgement at the end of the key stage.
You can download sample SATs papers, which are useful for preparing for the tests from satspapers.org.
Our curriculum overviews gives you an idea of which topic your child will be studying at which point during the school year.
