Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)

OPAL stands for Outdoor Play and Learning and is a programme endorsed and supported by Sport England.

OPAL's mission statement is "To ensure that every schoolchild has an amazing playtime every day with no exceptions."

We aim to:

• improve well-being
• develop self-regulation
• increase physical activity
• aid social and emotional development
• learn to manage risk
• have FUN!

This programme is a journey that we're undertaking over the next 12-18 months with OPAL, developing the playground and play of the children.

Fundraising

As many of you may have heard, Sebright recently received a Platinum award in the recent OPAL assessment. This puts our outdoor play area in the top 1% in the world! Congratulations to all the Sebright adults who helped donate toys and run fundraising activities. Also, a big congratulations to Jenni Bird and Helen Campbell for their dedication in making this a special place for all.

The work doesn’t stop here though. We are looking to make the outdoor area even better, and we need your help! We’ve opened a Go Fund Me to fundraise for new outdoor items like an enhanced mud kitchen, live fence, etc. The link to donate is here: https://gofund.me/b7f2224c

We love inviting you into our playground to play with your children and join us on this journey of developing our playground.

Wish List

As we work towards making our playtimes more exciting, no matter what the weather, we need some equipment to help us to do this. Donations of any of the following would be greatly received:

• Suitcases
• Plastic crates
• Wooden pallets
• Cable drums / reels
• Large cardboard boxes
• Fabric (Sheets / Saris / Curtains)
• Old wagons and buggies / strollers
• Large Buckets and containers
• Dressing up clothes / items (in good condition)
• Small toys (farm animals/ dinosaurs / dolls / cars / lego/ wooden toys)
• Pots/ pans / metal bowls/ metal spoons / spatulas / plates (plastic or metal).

If you have any of these items, please bring them to school.

We would also be grateful for donations of wet weather clothing that no longer fits your children:

• wellies
• waterproof trousers
• raincoats
