Year 4 - Trip to the Mosque

Year 4 visited the East London Mosque which is situated between Whitechapel and Aldgate East. The East London Mosque (ELM) serves Great Britain’s largest Muslim community. It is one of the largest mosques in Europe, and the biggest in the UK. The ELM can accommodate more that 7,000 worshippers for prayers.

Year 4 had a guided tour around the mosque learning about the religion of Islam. We entered the prayer halls and the ablution facilitates (the facilities to support the Islamic procedure for cleansing parts of the body). We also had a look at the minarets (the towers adjacent to the mosque) from which the calls to prayer used to be issued.
