Year 6 Residential - Scouts Activity Centre Youlbury (Day 3)

Day 3 - Wednesday 8th February

We got up to a relaxing start with Danish pastries, yoghurt, fruit and cereal this morning. “Yummy” was Alice’s review, “Very nice” added Amaan. However, the relaxing didn’t last long because soon the instructors came to drag us away.

First up were Incline Climbing, Crate Stacking, High All Aboard and 3G Swing – Awesome! Hasan and Amaan made a great pair on the Crate Stacking, but they could be heard from all over the place. Likewise, Louisa and Hamidah created a colossal raucous as they plummeted down from the 3G Swing. Ma-Leiha’s epic scream echoed throughout the entire forest but “It was an unforgettable experience” beamed Ma-Leiha.

Chinedum and Stevens dashed up the rock climbing in next to no time just like monkeys! “It looked high from the bottom but then two seconds later I was at the top and couldn’t believe my eyes” they both raved.

At this point, everyone was frozen to the bone and could not wait to eat the delightful sandwiches topped off with crisps and brownies. “It was very delicious,” stated Ella.

After lunch, we put on extra layers (the record was 16 in total with 4 socks on one foot!) and departed for the Sensory Trail, Backwoods Cooking and Shelter Building. “You have to lead someone, who is blindfolded, in the right direction without talking. Difficult and challenging but really good.” Explained Hamidah. The funniest part was when Jamie, Mubarak and Hamidah’s shoes came off in the mud and squelched down into the quicksand-like mud until Miss Roberts could rescue them!

In Backwoods Cooking, everyone had a blast as we created chocolate bananas on an open fire and sang a Swedish Folk Song with the instructor Karen. Hasan, Amaan, Tristan, Ella and Abdullah all made new friends with sticks: CR7, Stickerella, Stickcop, Bob and Jackie Chan. Although, they didn’t share the food with their friends. On a side note, Abdullah took a slippery slide down the slope but styled it out in the end!

Some groups got extra creative with the shelter building, going as far as making Japanese Gardens, Cinemas and Swimming pools for their luxurious shelters. Emily, Yandra and Jennifer were the professional landscapers and designers for this incredible achievement. The bigger shelters worked a treat in preventing bear attacks, sunshine and bad weather.

Once again it is time for dinner and then more Wide Games in the Freeeeeeezing Cold.
